Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are blue because the light is refracted through the eucalyptus oil given off by the trees. Things you never knew, eh? We hiked a 10 km trail today with some gorgeous views and a peek at the Three Sisters Rock formation.

A view from the top trail.
Legend has it this was three sisters turned to stone by their father to protect them from a monster.
Do you think that might be a bit on the overprotective side?
Especially since he died and couldn't undo the spell.

Part of our hike took us down the Grand Staircase with 860 steps. At the bottom we hiked through the rainforest and climbed back to the top up a different trail with just as many steps!

Pretty cool stuff -- we had pink cockatoos outside our van in the campsite this morning.

We're only 90 minutes from Sydney, where we turn in our little campervan in two days. We're looking forward to seeing the sights of the city.

  2. 860 steps? Holy vertigo, Batman! Great pix, though.
