The Whitsundays

We have spent a few days driving south along the coast, stopping in Mission Beach, Bowen and Airlie Beach. The highway was bordered with sugar cane fields and banana plantations.

Harvesting sugar cane
Super machines!
Anyone for a fresh banana daiquiri?

We stopped for a couple of nights in Airlie Beach to go out sailing in the Whitsunday Islands on a tall ship called the Derwent Hunter. Great stuff! We had to wear lycra suits when snorkelling because there was a posssibility of stinging jellyfish in the water.

Cindy's ready to snorkel.

When snorkeling, this is the OK sign. OK?
Mal gets to help raise the sail.

Today we're in Torquay, a little place just outside Hervey Bay. Tomorrow we go on an tour to explore Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. Only four wheel drive vehicles over there because there are no regular roads.
