Cradle Mountain

Travelling into the west coast wilderness in Tasmania. We visited Cradle Mountain National Park. Tasmania is about one third national park and state reserve. We took a couple of nice walks and did a short hike up to Marion's Lookout to see gorgeous views of Cradle Mountain.

As we headed back to the Lodge after a late afternoon walk we were lucky enough to watch a wombat (above) and an echidna (below) feeding along the side of the road. The echidna is feasting on ants.

The end of the hike was a little STEEP. The hat was very necessary as the winds up there were howling. The clouds were coming and going and at one point we had a few minutes of hail.
Once at the top we had gorgeouus views. There she is - Cradle Mountain. Dove Lake, our starting point, is at the bottom.

Walking along the boardwalk to the Ronny Creek car park. The boardwalk crosses the meadows of button grass. It's wet in the grass and full of wombat holes and probably a few snakes, too. We were very thankful for the boardwalk. We spotted a few wombats as we walked along.

We will leave the wet and windy west coast and drive across to the other side of Tasmania to the Tasman Peninsula.
